What start­ed in 1981 as a coop­er­a­tive between six of the largest home improve­ment man­u­fac­tur­ers and retail­ers to pro­vide investor edu­ca­tion has evolved into the lead­ing mar­ket research orga­ni­za­tion for over one-hun­dred of the biggest names with­in the home improve­ment industry.

Our goal has always been to pro­vide com­pa­nies of all sizes with action­able resources rang­ing from raw data to digestible exec­u­tive sum­maries to shape their busi­ness decisions.

Dave King, Executive Director

Dave has spent the past twen­ty years in the strat­e­gy, research and advanced ana­lyt­ics space, name­ly advanced quan­ti­ta­tive analy­sis. Nine of those years were focused direct­ly in the home improve­ment space as VP of Strat­e­gy, Research & Ana­lyt­ics for Ener­Bank USA (now Regions Bank), a home improve­ment lender. Since he can remem­ber, Dave has been fas­ci­nat­ed by the study of behav­ioral eco­nom­ics and all things hous­ing relat­ed. Dave is proud to be mar­ried to Stephanie and raise his son Aiden, who is 7, and his daugh­ter Addi­son, who is 5. Based in Salt Lake City, you’ll find Dave embrac­ing the out­doors, trail run­ning, ski­ing, and adven­ture motorcycling.

Pam Hei­del has spent her entire career in the home improve­ment indus­try. Before work­ing as Oper­a­tions Direc­tor of Home Improve­ment Research Insti­tute, she led the research and dig­i­tal team and Gen­er­ac Pow­er Sys­tems and man­aged mar­ket research for Broan-NuTone. Dur­ing her tenure at both Gen­er­ac Pow­er Sys­tems and Broan-NuTone, she served on HIRI’s Board of Directors. 

Stephen Giles, Senior Research Project Director at HIRI

Stephen Giles, Senior Research Project Director

Stephen joined the HIRI team for the oppor­tu­ni­ty to deliv­er high qual­i­ty research to our mem­bers. Stephen earned his under­grad­u­ate and Mas­ter of Busi­ness Admin­is­tra­tion degrees from Troy Uni­ver­si­ty and com­plet­ed a Ph.D. in Busi­ness Admin­is­tra­tion from the Uni­ver­si­ty of South Alaba­ma in 2022.

Since 2006, Stephen spent the major­i­ty of his pro­fes­sion­al career in the bank­ing indus­try, and his most recent role was in mar­ket research for a large region­al bank. In addi­tion to his back­ground in bank­ing, Stephen has served the past 17 years in the Army Nation­al Guard achiev­ing the rank of Lieu­tenant Colonel and is also a grad­u­ate of the Army Com­mand and Gen­er­al Staff College. 

Stephen mar­ried his col­lege sweet­heart in 2003 and has been blessed with three amaz­ing daugh­ters Vic­to­ria, Felic­i­ty, and Carolina.
