HomeAdvisor, one of the leading services for pairing up homeowners with professionals, as well as a HIRI member, recently released their findings of their new Homeowner Happiness Index. This new Index gauges how homeowner happiness in influenced by where they live, covering all 50 states, as well as 36 major metropolitan areas.

The Index is derived from data collected from more than 17,500 homeowners, and has ranked each of the states and metropolitan areas. California, Washington, and New Mexico top the list of happiest states, while San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Denver top the metropolitan area list. Like any list, there is always those at the bottom, with Delaware, New Jersey, and Indiana the least happy states, and Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Salt Lake City the least happy metro areas.

Based on the research, HomeAdvisor found that most of homeowner happiness boils down three key factors. The accessibility to important attractions and services in the area, a community with a strong sense of diversity and safety, as well as an affordable, well-functioning home with comfortable accommodations.

The very in-depth study can be observed in its entirety by heading over to their website where you can use their interactive infographics to dig down to the state and metropolitan area level.
